Common questions

In Australia, a full time Senior Programmer generally earns $2,000 per week ($104,000 annual salary) before tax. This is a median figure for full-time employees and should be considered a guide only. As a Junior Programmer your starting salary will be considerably less than this, but there’s plenty of room for growth as your skills increase.

Junior Programmer careers

Junior Programmers work under a team of software developers and IT experts writing the code behind your favourite computer software and smartphone apps. They write and modify programming code under the supervision of a senior programmer, and are either working on programming tasks or writing programs specs and user guides.

As a Junior Programmer you’ll need high-end coding skills using multiple programming languages — but you’ll also need a working knowledge of related IT systems (networking, database, operating systems, and cloud infrastructure). You’ll need meticulous attention to detail, problem solving, and business writing skills.
