A Vessel Skipper is responsible for operating and navigating a variety of watercraft, including ferries, fishing boats, tugs, and tourism vessels. They ensure the safety of crew and passengers, manage the vessel's course and speed, monitor weather and sea conditions, and oversee maintenance and compliance with maritime regulations.
Skippers may also be involved in planning voyages, communicating with ports and maritime authorities, and supervising onboard operations such as fishing or cargo handling. Strong leadership, decision-making skills, and extensive maritime knowledge are essential for this role, along with appropriate maritime certifications and sea time experience.
