Common questions

In Australia, a full time Aged Care Worker generally earns $2,000 per week ($104,000 annual salary) before tax — Aged Care Managers who look after facility operations would earn considerably more than this. This is a median figure for full-time employees and should be considered a guide only.

If you are looking for a management role in Aged and Community care you’ll need real world experience in the aged care sector, plus leadership and administration skills. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), plus the Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management would give you a strong understanding of the aged care sector — as well as skills in business, leadership, strategic planning and compliance. These courses could be achieved in under 2 years, but you are likely to need 3-5 years industry experience. To work in aged care (at any level) you also need a current first aid and CPR certificate, as well as an up-to-date influenza vaccination. Some aged care providers also require a national police check.
