A Dairy Farm Manager is responsible for the daily running of farms producing milk and dairy products. You’ll be in charge of breeding and raising dairy cattle and keeping them in optimum physical health. Dairy Farm Managers need to prepare pasture and fodder for dairy cows and oversee the milking schedule. You’ll need to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and all hygiene and animal care practices meet industry regulations. Your role as Dairy Farm Manager means you also need to organise the sale and collection of the milk supply.
A Dairy Farm Manager works long hours with very early starts. You’ll need to have good animal handling skills and be able to supervise a team of workers. Your role involves a lot of business administration and you’ll need to make sure the farm is profitable. Dairy Farm Managers need to be adaptable because you might be called on to do anything from fixing a fence to delivering a calf.
