You might decorate cakes or other items for special occasions and you might also prepare fillings or make sweet bread items. Patissiers often work in restaurants and cafes but you might also be employed at a specialist dessert shop or bakery. You might have to perform other kitchen duties such as sourcing ingredients and maintaining stocks of specialist items.

Patissiers should be focused and have strong attention to detail. It’s important that you are passionate about your profession and work hard to perfect your skills. Patissiers must have good organisational skills and be good at multitasking. You may have to work as part of a team and should be able to communicate well.
